US Department of Transportation Announces $3 Million in Emergency Relief Funding for I-95 Bridge Repair
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has announced $3 million in emergency relief funding to help repair the Fairfield Avenue bridge over I-95 in Connecticut. The bridge was damaged by a gas tanker truck fire earlier this year.
The funding will be provided by the Federal Highway Administration's (FHWA) Emergency Relief program, which helps states repair highways and bridges damaged by disasters.
"The Department of Transportation is committed to supporting our state partners in recovering from disasters," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao. "This funding will help Connecticut repair the Fairfield Avenue bridge and get it back open to traffic as quickly as possible."
The FHWA will work with the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) to ensure that the repairs are made quickly and safely.
"We are grateful for the Department of Transportation's assistance," said CTDOT Commissioner James Redeker. "This funding will allow us to begin repairs on the Fairfield Avenue bridge immediately."
The repairs to the bridge are expected to take several months to complete.
