Traffic cones
Usually, black-based cones are used outdoors during road work or other activities that require traffic redirection, advanced warning of hazards or danger, or preventing traffic
Our traffic cones can be used to identify where children are playing and to block off areas. At night or in low-light situations our traffic cones are fitted with a retroreflective sleeve to increase visibility. On occasion, we can also add flashing lights.
The Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) of the United States Federal Highway Administration requires cones to have reflective white bands to increase night-time visibility. Reflective collars, made of strips of white reflective plastic, slip over the cones.
They are designed to be highly visible and easily movable. Various sizes are used, commonly ranging from around 30 cm (11.8 in) to a little over 1 m (39.4 in).
These warnings come in many different colors, with orange, yellow, pink, and red being the most common colors due to their brightness. Others come in green and blue, and may also have a retroreflective strip (commonly known as "flash tape") to increase their visibility.
Typical warning cones are fluorescent "safety" orange or lime green, but in some countries, a range of other colors are used depending on context. Traffic cones also commonly come with reflective striping around them, to increase visibility.
according to OSHA, this is what each safety color means (listed from highest degree of danger to least):
- Red Traffic Cones-Danger. For OSHA, red connotes imminent danger with the chance of serious injury or death.
- The color Orange means there is a potential danger of serious injury or death.
- Yellow Traffic Cones-Caution. Yellow also portends potential danger, but, according to OSHA, the risk is lessened to general injury.
- Kelly Green Traffic Cones-Safety Equipment. OSHA has assigned green to first-aid stations that feature emergency information, eye wash or other
- safety equipment. Green is also commonly used at athletic events, especially track and field.
- OSHA uses blue to denote non-hazardous information. Blue is also used to designate disabled-only spaces.
- White Traffic Cones. White marks areas that are considered safe, also a good backdrop for logos, or to indicate the location of entrances, restrooms, etc.
Additional traffic cone colors are also available. These do not carry any OSHA designation, but over years of usage, the colors do carry a special meaning.
- The Safety Pink Traffic Cones. Most people recognize safety pink as the global designated color of the breast cancer walks. Again, we make chain cone connectors and plastic chain to exactly match the pink traffic cones.
- Safety Green Traffic Cones. These are also called lime green, and they are a cross between yellow and green. Even though this color is not specifically designated by OSHA as a safety color, these traffic cones match the safety vest that many highway and construction workers wear. Safety green is a color that is very visible to the human eye.
- Sky Blue Traffic Cones. Sky blue does not have a common meaning, but it is a vibrant color that could be used for parties, corporate events, and would be attractive at a baby shower.
